Leaving Behind Mediocrity

Now on the second week of school this semester at BYU, I have learned some important things. For most of my academic career I have been able to squeak by, putting forth the bare minimum required effort. I have even done well doing this in the past. Especially this last week I have quickly learned, however, that this is no longer the case. As I am now in a very rigorous major I need to work hard to perform my best.
This is a lesson, that I need to work hard and put always do my best, is one I have tried to learn for a long time. What I will be doing, having learned this lesson, is putting forth more effort to perform my best in all I do, not just things I enjoy or when it is easy to do. This is something that applies not only to schoolwork, but to life in general.
Why be mediocre when you can by amazing? There are many things I am good at, and many areas in which I can improve. No longer putting forth a mediocre performance and working to become better in all areas of my life are two of my main goals for this semester.

  1. I think that what you posted is very applicable and timely. So often we are not living up to our potential and giving less than our best because it isn't necessary. I actually have been grateful for classes and situations that push me to my limits because it is an opportunity to see what I can really do. They really do become opportunities to leave mediocrity behind and to become better.

  2. That is very true, I don't believe that there will ever be a time that we feel we have reached our full potential and can no longer improve, but we can try our best everyday.

  4. Definitely in the same boat! I have just started into the Accounting Junior Core. And man I thought I was busy going to BYU before but man, these past two weeks have been a killer. I appreciate you writing this it reaffirms a goal that I knew I had before I started into this semester, but I'm sure as time goes on we both will need to remind ourselves of why it is we work so hard.

  5. This post resonate well with me. My first semester at BYU was super hard because I was not use to study in English. But each one of the following semester was easier than the other. However, When I started my major I notice how intense this semester will be. But hard thing that make us good in our major. Easy thing will never make us good because " their is not growth in the comfort zone, and their is not comfort in the growing zone."
